I just finished my mis-en-scene project. This assignment had a lot of freedom. We were given a character and told that our presentation would be 7 minutes. Your presentation "station" had to reflect the character in a fun and engaging way. Simple slide shows were not encouraged so after picking our group, we had to get creative.

The character we got was a movie lover who creates blogs on the content she watches. She enjoys having bi movie dates with her group of friends and her name is taylor. Taylor has 2 cats at the age of 30 and she is a full time cake baker and decorator. In order to reflect taylors life, we had to put our participants into her shoes. To visualize our. character, we had AI generate a photo after making a sketch of  Taylor's potential character design. We set up our presentation station with a blanket to represent the couch she watches her movies on and we set up the 4 computers with aluminum foil antennas to symbolize the TV. Our project had games that engulfed the views into Taylor's world. Things such as "Guess the movie" or "Create your own blog" really set the scene for our character. We also had a 3-d digital room tour of taylor's personal space. Our mood board tied it all together allowing out participants to really get to know Taylor, apart from her in depth description.

We made taylor a white, straight women who can be categorized on the nerdier side. We gave her glasses to soemhwat stereotype the nerd within her. Each one of our group members had a role in this project and once we put everything together, Taylor came to life.

What do you mean by coming of age?

This genre seen in films consists of content that captures the teenager experience. For many teens, it has become a comforting style of film. Directors such as John Hughes, Greta Gerwig, and Damian Chazelle are well known for their relatable coming of age films.
In more detail, coming of age film stem from moral and psychological growth. The protagonist is seen progressing developmentally from childhood to adulthood. In most cases its just a teenager as the lead, while we follow them through whatever journey they're about to face.
For this genre of film, there are techniques that are used to illustrate their idea in an impactful way. Examples such as social commentary and relatable themes are used to connect with the audience. As well as stylistic choices in dialogue, music, and visuals all attract their target consumers. They market these projects predominantly on relatable experiences.
An example of this could be the 2017 film Ladybird directed by Greta Gerwig where a highschool senior navigates her relationship with her mother and the transition into adulthood. She attends a catholic high school and despite their unfortunate financial situation, she dreams of attending a prestigious college. Her mother believes its an unrealistic expectation which slowly tears their relationship apart. This is a scenario that is not unique to her. Anyone else watching can directly associate with her story. The filmmakers made no mistake with her character design. The bright colors in her hair and her alternative outfits speaks to the ongoing generation of misfit teeangers. Also, throughout the movie there were song choices that would be considered "emo". This style of music is common with individuals in this age group. This movie is a prime example of what coming of age really is,

Another popular movie is the 1986 film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Directed by johnes hughes, this film is about an attempt to stay home from school. In the film, Ferris fakes an illness so that his parents would let him stay home. This phenomenon is no original experience, almost every teenger or child has lied about feeling under the weather in order to avoid going to school. He was successful and took his dads car so he can continue being bad throughout the day. In this case the character did not learn a lesson, he actually got away with all the trouble he got away with it. It appeals to the mischievous variant of teenagers which makes this an exaple of a coming of age film.

I had learned a lot of things regarding sound in the production world. Thing like diegetic to non diegetic sound and foley sounds are all used in some of your favorite tv shows or even movies. Im now able to recognize these sound on my own time when watching movies and shows at home.

For our first sound project, we had to create a scenario in which a lot of audio would be used. The scenario had to be interesting and not boring to listen to. It was a minimum of one minute which was enough time to develop a plot for the audio. During the brainstorming, it was challenging to think of something that would actually sound interesting. After a few idea, we settled on a famous women ripping her dress while on her way to an event. This project engaged us in a way that we had to really think about all the sounds that would be necessary for the storyline. To organize all these thoughts, we separated the scenes into an outline and thought about what sounds would fit into the timestamp. After gathering all that information, we put our project together through clipchamp. I think we did a pretty good job putting together all the sounds but I think some of the sounds are too quiet and some were too loud. LeScheuermann_soundscape_per4.m4a

For our second sound project, we had to revisit our one word film. The first project we were assigned had no audio whatsoever; the next project was to add audio to it. Since the previous project had no dialogue, it was easier to match up time stamps so that nothing sounds delayed or unrealistic. When planning, we did an outline similar to our first project. We seperated the scenes and determined what sounds we needed to add in order to match the video. Then we got to work and matched up the audios to the clips. I used the editing app 'Kinemaster'. I did feel like this project had a lot of missing sounds but i just couldn't tell what. Also, some of the sounds I wasn't able to find online and they were difficult to make foley sounds. I think my timing was good for the most part and everything felt natural. OWFSound_Scheuermann_.MP4
